Our WTWO/MDA interview...

Whew...it's over and now a memory. While Andrew was quite excited about being interviewed, Courtney and I weren't so sure about it. Sure, we wanted to do it to help raise money for the MDA, but beyond that, we really didn't feel the need for us to be interviewed. Anyhow, we had a great time. First the cameraman arrived, who we found out lives in Vincennes and is married to a Hagen. Come to find out, we'd celebrated the 4th of July with him and his family at a cookout! Small world, huh? Next, Jennifer from the MDA office came. We've spoken on the phone a lot, so I felt like I knew her. What we weren't expecting was for Tom McClannahan from WTWO to walk in the door!! Apparently I was answering his questions the way he wanted because he kept making me put the mike back on and talk some more. He asked if I was a nurse and said I was very "eloquent" in explaining Andrew's health journey. What??? Me??? Anyhow, after we talked inside, the cameraman, Rick, took the boys outside to get some footage of them riding their bikes. Some wonderful friends provided some food that we all enjoyed - thanks Bonnie, Trudy, and Stacy!! Andrew's story will air on ch. 2 news the last week of August, and then on Labor Day during the Labor Day telethon. It will also be airing on the Evansville station since we're between the two MDA regions. Andrew will also be one of the "star boys" at the telethon, which is the person who puts the totals on the star board. We will do a live interview (oh no!!) during the telethon, too.

Glasses...Part 4

A new chapter in our neverending glasses story. They called and said the new frames were in. They had ordered 4 pairs this time, so they'd have extras "just in case". Good thing, because Dr. D did it this time, and broke 3 pairs!! Finally, the last pair worked perfectly. He wonders if the frame factory might've put a tiny knick in each temple when they were being shaped? So, chances are this is a defective pair, too, but they're working for now. More will be ordered once they're sure they've fixed the issue. Isaac looks so much better in these glasses instead of the goofy loaner ones he had. :)

Hannah Montana

Click here for a free phone call from Hannah Montana! The calls come right away and the kids thought it was pretty cool.

This was a perfect way to start our day after rushing home last night to catch the premier of Hannah Montana's 3-D concert, complete with 3-D glasses!!

Do you enjoy burffets?

This video is kinda funny...hope you enjoy. I tease Seth about saying "Boofet", but these guys enjoy their "Burffets". To each his own, I suppose. Let me know what you think of this! : )

Glasses...Part 3

I didn't realize this was going to be an ongoing topic, but apparently it is. Isaac's replacement frames finally came in today, after an unusually long delay. It seemed to be taking quite a long time to get his lenses switched from the loaners to his frames again. Finally, they came out to tell us the new glasses snapped and broke. They will be calling the lab rep in the morning to see what can be done and hopefully it won't be as long this time. Meanwhile, they readjusted the loaner frames once again, since Isaac seems to be on a mission to destroy this loaner pair.

That Scream

I am hugely terrified of mice and always have been. It's to the point that I even pray about it. I'm sure God has bigger problems to deal with than keeping my path free from little rodents, but I know he cares about every little detail. :) I let out "that scream" this morning, the one reserved for those rare times I've seen one. I can't even try to scream like that if I wanted to...it's just my natural reaction. So, not only have I been trapped in the house waiting for progres on poor Andrew...now I know there's a mouse in here, too. Ewwwwwwwwwww! And now Isaac is running around saying "I saw a mice, I saw a mice..." just to get to me. :)

Antifreeze and Liquid Dynamite!

It's been quite a week around here... Last Tuesday is when we saw the GI Dr. at Riley. He said to start Andrew on 3 capfuls of Miralax a day because his gut has stopped functioning as it should (motility issues). He then goes on to tell me the main ingredient in Miralax is polyethylene glycol 3350, which is a cousin of antifreeze!! Not to worry though, it's safe. Makes me feel real good...hope it's nothing like the propulsid he took as an infant for GERD, which is now pulled off the market and pending lawsuits.

If you've followed caringbridge, you know all about the attempts at the 48 hour colon cleanse that he failed miserably. Yesterday, they had us start magnesium citrate, which they refer to as liquid dynamite!! Several people also commented about their quick experiences with this magic potion before surgery. Unfortunately, he's on day 2 of using this and still nothing. Poor kid!

Try as I might to keep this blog seperate from his medical journey, it's inevitable at times. So, if you were looking for a funny story, I'm sorry. Try me tomorrow. Maybe I'll be off my house arrest sentence and will have something more to say.

Oh where are all the bloggers?

Maybe I'm a little lame and need to get a real life, but I sincerely miss the good old days of my friends updating their blogs!! Come out, come out wherever you are and tell the world what you've been up to! :)

Glasses...Part 2

Isaac walked face first into the corner of a table over the weekend...don't ask me how. Keep in mind he's in his "loaner" frames that he was to be careful with. Somehow he managed to hit the corner of the table with the nosepiece of the glasses, therefore pushing it in and the rest of the glasses outward. He also managed to knock the little nose piece off, which really stressed him out. Thankfully, Courtney's had also fallen off over the weekend, so that gave Isaac some comfort when I said he was just like Daddy. :) So, Courtney started his first morning of vacation going to the eye dr's, but now they're both fixed. Hopefully Isaac's real frames will be here today or early tomorrow so we can have them before we leave.

pictures...

Above, a nice picture of Andrew...with a real smile!! Below, Isaac's preschool graduation

So, I've never really taken the time to figure out how to post pictures on my blog. Today I'm fighting a headache (thanks to a baseball to the head!), so figured I'd be productive while taking it easy.

New Glasses

Isaac failed his eye exam last week...with his glasses on! He has gone from a 2.5 rx to now needing 3.75. Dr. D told us to expect him needing stronger lenses, but no one expected that much of a jump! So, new lenses were ordered and they called today to say they'd arrived. When the gal went to put them in his glasses, she broke the frame. For now, they found a pair that the new lenses semi-fit in, and new frames are one order. Unfortunately, with the 4th of July holiday, it'll be delayed, but none the less, he'll get free frames out of the deal. He just has to "be careful" with these glasses until his come in. Ummmm, have you met my son?
